Dear Editor,

I enjoyed reading John Stevens’ article in the September edition on the new format of cricket with the introduction of The Hundred tournament.

As a cricket lover I have enjoyed watching the tournament, and you can see from the reaction of the spectators at the matches how exciting they are.

I totally agree with John in his comments that we can learn from the new format in relation to our church services and the desire to reach out into the wider community with the gospel and in mission. Surely one of the outcomes from the pandemic that we can learn from is that we rethink how we do church and our outreach.

I heard once in a sermon that the sign of a dying church is when ‘we say that we have always done it this way’! Now is a great opportunity to have fresh thinking and approach going forward into the new normal that confronts us all.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Cox Wigton, Cumbria
