‘At least 11 churches’ affected in Nepal flood tragedy

Relief efforts continue at pace as Nepal recovers from devastating flash floods which have seen more than 70 Christians numbered among around 1,000 killed, and 75 more numbered among the thousands missing.

The disaster, believed to have been caused by a melted glacier, saw many communities hammered by floodwaters, with mud, rock and debris brought down by the waters leaving entire villages swept away and buried underground. The Nepalese government is coordinating relief efforts but ruined infrastructure, including roads and bridges, as well as ongoing flood warning alerts, make rescue efforts challenging.

Andrew Dudgeon of Platform 67 (who liaise with mission organisations worldwide) told en the initial challenge had been finding potential survivors. Now it was recovery and rebuilding, he said.
