Hillsong church pastor Brian Houston is
stepping down as the church’s global senior
pastor as he prepares to stand trial for
criminal charges alleging he concealed his
father’s sexual abuse.
Houston, 66, had already stepped down
from his
position
as Hillsong’s
board
chairman after being charged by New South
Wales police. He is accused of knowing his
father abused a seven-year-old boy in the
1970s and helping to cover it up, a charge he has denied.
Afghanistan replaces N.
Korea at top of the list
Open Doors
For the first time in 20 years, North Korea
no longer tops Open Doors’ World Watch
List, its annual ranking of the 50 countries
where Christians
face
the most extreme
persecution. That dubious distinction now
belongs to Taliban-led Afghanistan.
This reversal is sadly not a result of North
Korea becoming safer for Christians – it has
scored higher this year than ever before. But
Open Doors’ research reveals that whereas in
North Korea Christians will be imprisoned,
in Afghanistan they are likely to be executed more swiftly.
