'God chose the Jewish people for a reason'

Dear Editor,

I was disappointed by Rory McClure’s article on Israel and the Jewish people, particularly his treatment of Romans 9–11. Of course Christians should be equally concerned about the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians, and no government is above criticism. But in making his argument, McClure seems to have lost sight of something fundamental: God chose the Jewish people for a reason, and that purpose has not ended.

God chose Abraham and his descendants to bring his blessing to the nations. Through the Jewish people came the Scriptures, the prophets, the Messiah and the gospel. God used Jewish believers to bring salvation to the Gentile world. We are not chosen because we are better than anyone else, but because God intends to use us to bless others.
