Dear Editor,
I enjoyed the article by Graham Daniels that tentatively examined Wales’ performance in Round 1 of the Men’s Six Nations.
I believe there is another view that can be taken. The Welsh Rugby Union are standouts in the world of sport in the way they have behaved over the last ten years, which has been in hyperdrive over the last five years. The WRU have been exposed as a sexist and racist organisation in 2023, have financially mismanaged the game in Wales, cutting budgets in pathways for young talent to take up the game of rugby professionally, and this has been compounded by a golden generation of talent retiring from international rugby between 2022 and 2025, most of which accelerated after the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The WRU last year announced it was consulting on cutting two of Wales’ professional regions. It now appears that the Ospreys, probably the most successful on the pitch of all the regions, will be the victim of the WRU purge.
