The Faroese Bible Society has released a new translation of the New Testament in Faroese, aiming to better reflect local “liturgical customs and vocabulary, rooted in the islands’ rich tradition”.
The venture provides the Faroe Islands with its first new translation since 1937 and was undertaken as a collaborative effort by a Lutheran bishop, the Lutheran state church and free churches.
According to Evangelical Focus, the translation marks the first major milestone of an overall project which will be accompanied by a new translation of the Psalms and, eventually, a fully updated Bible.
