WEA fires up believers from 100+ nations

Over 900 evangelical leaders attended the World Evangelical Alliance’s (WEA) General Assembly for 2025 in Seoul.

The four-day event featured representation from 124 of the world’s 152 regional and national evangelical alliances, and was centred around the theme “The Gospel for Everyone by 2033”.

The WEA’s General Assembly only takes place once every five years and its 14th iteration, which saw a total of 7,000 participants attend, took place at SaRang Church. It saw key leadership positions filled, with Botrus Mansour appointed as Secretary General and Godfrey Yogarajah as chairman of its International Council.

The assembly’s makeup roughly reflected the demographic makeup of today’s church; a WEA media spokesperson told journalists in the South Korean capital that 70% of the world’s believers are now from “southern and eastern areas”, with 71% at the assembly from those regions.

Following his return from the assembly, UK Evangelical Alliance CEO Gavin Calver told en: “It was great to attend the WEA General Assembly in Seoul and gather with evangelicals from more than 100 nations. I had the privilege of experiencing wonderful times of worship in different languages, powerful moments of corporate prayer and encouragement for us all to play our part in fulfilling the Great Commission in our nations. The years ahead have many challenges in them but the opportunities in front of us are far greater than the obstacles.”

Lucy Williams, who volunteered at the event, said: “It was moving to stand among an international, multilingual congregation of several thousands, praying aloud together that the lost might hear the saving news of the gospel.”
