Peter Meadows, who helped establish Christian festival Spring Harvest, has died at the age of 84.

Writing on Facebook, Spring Harvest said: "Pete was a pioneer, and a faithful servant of Jesus. We give thanks to God for his life, his faith, and the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind, a legacy that has shaped individuals, churches, and generations."

Meadows was recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Christian music promoter A Step FWD in recognition of his help in shaping the "sound and story of UK Christian and Gospel music" as co-founder of label Musical Gospel Outreach.

Meadows also helped found Premier Radio and Premier Christianity magazine - which started out as a newsletter called Buzz and detailed his work on the Christian music scene. Writing on X, Premier Christianity editor Sam Hailes said: "His entrepreneurial drive has led to millions of people hearing the gospel and being built up in their faith."

Meadows is also reported to have played a part in the early development and naming of Christian international relief and development charity Tearfund.

Human rights organisation Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) is among those paying tribute on X: "[His] legacy touched millions of lives in the UK and around the world."
