A well-known evangelical pastor and football chaplain is recovering after a serious accident.
Bill Bygroves is a respected evangelical minister based in Liverpool. He has pastored Bridge Chapel in Liverpool and has preached at various churches and conferences across the UK. For many years he has been chaplain at Liverpool FC having previously played for the club.
A post on Facebook in a group run by Mirror Football explained that Bygroves suffered “several broken bones” and was knocked unconscious in mid-June.
At the time of writing, the latest update is that he is now awake and undergoing tests for a head injury.
The Facebook post asked readers to keep the chaplain in their prayers and wished him a speedy recovery. Comments from readers included get-well wishes for Bygroves and his recovery.
An update in mid-July, about a month after the accident, explained that Bygroves was “making steady progress” and was “thankful for all the prayers, support and good wishes”.
Bygroves was signed by Liverpool under Bill Shankly as a young player before an injury ended his short career. He stayed involved with the club and later became club chaplain. He has featured prominently during a number of community events for Liverpool, including paying tribute after the death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota in a car accident last year.
Bygroves had spoken at a Faith and Football event at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mold, North-East Wales, just weeks before the accident.
