The biannual SALT (Serious About Loving Truth) youth conference was hosted at Penicuik, Midlothian in early September. The appealing theme ‘Christ: our life’ was chosen.
David Shedden opened with a message on ‘Christ our joy’. Using Psalm 1 to ask where Christians find happiness, he challenged everyone to admire Christ and aim to be content in him alone. Finding joy in heroes, in doing good or in human relationships can only satisfy temporarily.
Andrew Rowell spoke on ‘Christ our redeemer’. Christ lost his reputation among men and was rejected by God, but obeyed to redeem us. Though Christians battle with sin daily, Christ was set forth as our example.
Ali McLachlan taught on ‘Christ our life’ from Colossians 3. He preached Christ as the believer’s one passion. Anticipating being with him, concentrating on him, and consecrating ourselves for him are the joy of Christian living. After questions to a panel, Conrad Pomeroy ended with ‘Christ our shepherd’. This was a comforting message of Christ’s feeding us, leading us and keeping us.
