Psalm 39v4 essentially says that life is short, but eternity is long. With that in mind, here are some books about heaven for children. The first two are for younger children.
In the Big Theology for Little Hearts series, there is a book about heaven by Devon Provencher (ISBN 979 8 874 900 731).
This is a board book that focuses on key words, concise definitions and engaging illustrations to help young minds gain a foundational understanding of God’s Word. The excellent thing about this book is its truthfulness. Little ones will discover the hope of a world renewed through Christ and the reality of a life separated from Him.
One reviewer on Amazon said: “Our favourite book series for my toddler! Every book we get is beautifully illustrated and theologically sound!”
The Awesome Super Fantastic Forever Party by Joni Eareckson Tada (ISBN 978 1 784 987 879).
This illustrated Bible board book will teach toddlers that heaven is eternal life with Jesus, and it’s amazing! There, we will enjoy new hearts and new bodies.
An Amazon reviewer said: “My boys absolutely LOVE this series of books while on our Christian journey :) nice bold colours, beautifully written…”. There is also an edition of this book for older children (ISBN 978 1 784 987 534).
How Do I Get To Heaven?: Questions and Answers about Life and Death by Nancy Gorrell (ISBN 978 1 527 110 663).
How do I get to heaven? Can anybody go there? What happens when someone dies? These are all questions that a child will ask at some point in their life. Each spread includes one question or topic, a brief explanation, and a Bible verse that can be used as a memory verse. There are also explanations of words which might be new to readers, like salvation, resurrection, and substitute.
One reviewer from Amazon said: “This book helps me have conversations with my little one about Jesus and heaven, and what is coming our way.”
One final mention of a book that is not out yet but worth looking out for. Carine Mackenzie’s book The Caring Creator is being reprinted with new illustrations. Though not specifically on heaven, this creation story is a journey through the Bible from the first light of creation to the promise of a restored world (ISBN 978 1 527 112 759).
Rico Tice said of this book: “I love the way Caring Creator helps any Christian parent answer foundational questions, which are at the centre of the Christian worldview and human flourishing.”
