All you need to know about the Bible may appear to be a huge claim to make as the title for a set of books written about the one book which has inspired innumerable pages to be written about it; but this series title does not overextend itself.
This reviewer did wonder if the correct person had been selected for the slightly daunting role of reviewing for a prolific author on such a vast subject. The commendations all come from presidents and principals of theological colleges and Bible schools.
For Joe and Joanna Christian
The selection of a non-elder, regular Christian to review these books, though, was thoughtful, as it shows the accessibility of Brian Edwards’ work. This series is for anyone who either wants to know some answers for themselves, or who gets asked questions about the authenticity of the Bible, its construction and how to get to grips with it as an ordinary Joe or Joanna Christian.
The publisher’s stroke of genius was in issuing this as a small set rather than as one weighty tome. It doubtless would have sat on a shelf, looking intimidating, and been given to teaching elders and church leaders to digest. The entire series doesn’t have to be read in order, but this is to be recommended, certainly for a first reading.
Jesus Storybook Bible for adults
Extracts are so easy to recall, due to the style of writing, that nuggets can be stored away to help do some ‘Bible apologetics’ on the hoof with friends who ask those tricky questions that one formerly didn’t know how to answer. Other parts, or whole books, could be loaned to someone to help them chew over a query more fully. Book One contains such an accessible retelling of the overarching story of the Bible in a few pages that it deserves to be published as a short book of its own. It’s like a grown-up version of the phenomenal Jesus Storybook Bible.
Many people who are committed Christians would benefit from reading this little library to equip them in reaching out to others, as well as growing in their personal understanding of God’s Word. Put it on your Christmas list.
