THE TRUE BELIEVER
The Marks and Benefits of True Faith
By Jonathan Edwards. Soli Deo Gloria. 315 pages
ISBN 1 57358 121 6

The aim of the book is two-fold. It is concerned, firstly, to distinguish between real and counterfeit faith. In an age of 'shallow conversions' and 'cheap grace', we are encouraged to 'examine ourselves'. It is not a book to give to those struggling to find assurance, but to those who are self-assured and worldly.

The second concern of the book is to set out 'the blessings that come to those with true faith'. At a time when we get so absorbed with the here and now, Edwards masterfully directs our attention to the world to come. He skilfully elaborates on the superior state now of believers who have gone ahead of us, and of the glories that will be ours when Christ returns.
