David Young: Albania mission founder

The Albanian Evangelical Mission (AEM) was founded in April 1986 with David Young as the founding Director. David went to be with the Saviour, whom he had loved and served for many decades, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 8th.

David Martin Young was born in Basingstoke on Christmas Day, 1946. At the age of 15 or 16, through the ministry of a local church youth meeting, David came to understand the fundamentals of the Christian faith. One evening as he played the hymn, What shall I do my God to love, and considered the line in the second verse, “Whose every sin was counted Thine”, the Lord opened his heart to believe in Christ for the forgiveness of his sin.

David married Margaret Woodger in July 1973. He and Margaret first hosted an Albania prayer meeting in their home in Kent in October 1976. The primary goal in the 70s and 80s was to mobilise believers here in the UK to pray for Albania, a nation which then was as closed and hostile to the gospel as North Korea is today. The Lord blessed those endeavours, as regional prayer meetings and an annual prayer conference for Albania became established.
