Are we praying with eternity in mind?
Andrew Drury
There is a familiar theme in many prayers written by saints who have gone before us. It is noticeable in the prayer by the Polish-born reformer Zacharias Ursinus (1534–1583).
His prayer commences conventionally, with the acknowledgement to God the Father that we are weak - for we are being attacked by the Devil, the world and our own flesh unceasingly. The prayer includes the plea that the power of the Holy Spirit would keep and strengthen us, so that we would not be defeated.
Ageing: Society's view versus the Bible's
Andrew Drury
The desire to prolong life and even to live forever has been the pursuit of humanity ever since Adam and Eve were evicted from the Garden of Eden, being prevented from eating the fruit from the tree of life.
There have been articles, books, plays (such as Peter Pan) and films (notably Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) which have taken this prospect as its theme.
New group for undertakers under strain
Andrew Drury
A new Christian support group has been
formed for those working in the funeral or
bereavement sector.
Undertakers and
their colleagues have
experienced significant strain due to Covid
deaths. Transform Work UK has set up a
Christian support group called Christians
Working With
the Bereaved
(CWWtB)
because there were Christians in this sector
that had no fellowship with others doing the
same or similar work.
