Why I believe Sunday evening services are important

In his recent article, Pastor Ollie Land surmises that the majority of churches now only have one Sunday service.

Most liberal churches either never had an evening service or have given it up long ago, but today some evangelical churches have given up evening worship and others are considering doing so. I well remember being on holiday in a part of the country that we don’t know well and on the Sunday evening, my family and I looked in vain for an evening service to attend.

American Pastor Roger Ellsworth has asserted: “We need more of the Bible”, and asked: “Why are we cutting back on services that provide the preaching and teaching of God’s Word? Would we approve of a doctor cutting back on essential care for his patients? The primary manifestation of the cutting back mentality… is either the complete elimination of Sunday night services or the exchange of preaching on those nights for other activities.”[1]
