The resurrection that transformed Jewish expectations

Imagine being one of Jesus’ disciples on the day after His crucifixion.

You had followed a Jewish teacher who spoke about God’s kingdom and seemed to be the promised Messiah. Yet, He had been executed in the most shameful way possible. Worse still, you knew your Scriptures: "Anyone who is hung on a tree is under God’s curse" (Deuteronomy 21v23). If Jesus was dead, had you simply got it all wrong?

The first disciples were not religious blank slates. They were Jewish men whose understanding of God had been formed by the Hebrew Scriptures, shaped over centuries of revelation.
