Dear Sir,
Churches are apparently receiving invitations to register with and join ‘Inclusive Church’. The invitation opens with a list of nebulous ‘advantages’ that may allegedly be derived from joining, and then offers the following statement of faith:
‘Inclusive Church is a group of Christians uniting together around our statement of belief: “We believe in inclusive Church – church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.” ’
Well, what is there not to like about that? (Quite a lot actually when you look at it more closely – and I strongly suggest you do, at their website, where the nature of the beast is all too clear: www.inclusive-church.org
The invitation includes a space for one’s response. May I suggest that a suitable one for any biblical evangelical would be: ‘Thank you, but no thanks: our church does not discriminate on grounds of economic power, race, or disability, which you include only as a smokescreen to lend respectability to your real ideological agenda of gender (i.e lying about your sex) and sexuality (i.e. homosexuality)’.
Note carefully how these people glibly and, it would seem, hypocritically refer to the gospel and the Holy Spirit, while really seeking to impose a non-Christian agenda. We all need to be very alert.
