A detransition clinic is set to open in Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston following a settlement with the Texas Attorney General, making it the first initiative of its kind in the USA.
The service will exist to help correct transition care administered by doctors at the hospital, enabling children to undergo corrective surgery to return to their gender assigned at birth after they were wrongly treated at the pro-trans facility, potentially signifying a “cultural shift away from radical gender ideology”.
Outlining the severity of the malpractice, the settlement stipulated that five doctors will be removed from practice and the hospital will pay a $10 million fine for illegal trans procedures. Furthermore, care will be free for the first five years at the clinic, funded by the hospital, as reported by the Christian Institute.
The development comes after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton investigated the hospital’s transgender care three years ago. He expressed hope that the clinic will “help patients reverse the damage caused by ideologically motivated physicians” who performed “dangerous medical interventions” on them. He said in a statement: “Today is a monumental day in the fight to stop the radical transgender movement. This historic settlement reflects an institutional and fundamental cultural shift away from radical ‘gender’ ideology.”
Christian Institute Deputy Director Simon Calvert told en: “The damage caused to children and young people by mutilating healthy bodies in the name of gender ideology is one of the biggest medical scandals of our age. It’s about time professionals were held to account for the harm they’ve done.”
