The girl with a ‘Solus Christus’ tattoo

A 'Solus Christus' tatoo design

A ‘pretty’ Filipino who enjoyed a large social media following has come to Christ after having a tattoo of a cross on her arm.

Rachelle, 30, who had garnered thousands of Facebook followers, decided to have a tattoo – and chose a cross which bore the words ‘Solus Christus’ – which means ‘in Christ alone’. She did not know what the words meant, but she went ahead with the tattoo anyway because she liked the way it looked.

Rachelle then became curious as to what ‘Solus Christus’ meant and she looked up the meaning of the words on the internet. This lead her to Reformed theology and she started listening to sermons on YouTube posted by Reformed Baptist preachers. The Lord convicted her of her sins and Rachelle became a believer in February 2022, confessing to having lived a sinful and worldly lifestyle. She also closed her Facebook account.

The remarkable news of Rachelle’s conversion came via Aries Liboro, pastor of the First Reformed Baptist Church of Valenzuela in Manila. After her conversion, Rachelle started listening to the livestreams of the services at the First Reformed church. She realised the importance of being with other believers and started attending the services in person. Liboro said he hopes she will apply for church membership.

He spoke of the ‘drastic change’ in Rachelle’s life brought about by the Holy Spirit working in her, but said she faces continued challenges. He said: ‘She works as a data analyst for a foreign company and works from 7 in the evening till 4 in the morning. Sadly, she has to work on the weekends; after her shift, she will come to the church to attend the service and does not get much time to rest as she has then has to clock in that evening. She is applying to change her day off.’

He added: ‘Please pray that this will be approved so that it will be easier for her to attend the worship service on Sundays and other activities that we may have on the Lord’s Day.’
