The pastor at City on a Hill church in Edinburgh has paid tribute to one of its members, Elisabeth-Jane Ross (“Lisa”), who was found dead in a suitcase in Greece on 18 July.
Lead pastor Peter Anderson, speaking at a live “Church Online” on Sunday 2 August, said it’s been “a really tough week for our church” with the loss of Lisa, who was 38.
After a reading of Psalm 96, Anderson said: “She was a member for 20 years and she was a very, very precious girl and it’s a really tragic loss.
“As I’m thinking about Psalm 96, this Psalm is all about our heart for mission and I cannot think of a Psalm more suited to Lisa’s life than this Psalm because Lisa’s life was actually all about mission. She had a big passion for missions. She’d been to many places on mission; she’d served people; she’d cared for people all over the world.”
Sharif Ahmadzai, an Afghan convert to Christianity, has been charged with her murder. He denies the charge and says he found her body and moved it. Ahmadzai is married to an American missionary, Alaina Hall, and together they ran a charity, Love Every Nation, helping refugees in Athens.
