After widespread public complaint, author-ities removed billboards at bus stops that quoted the Qur’an’s declaration that Muslims should not befriend Christians or Jews.
The quote was accompanied by images of a cross and Star of David dripping with blood.
Reported to have been issued by Konya’s Islamist Justice and Development Party, they quoted Qur’an 5:51: ‘Do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you … he is [one] of them.’
