Evangelicals are being urged to remain “alert” after a Church of England motion widely seen as liberalising its position on same-sex relationships was defeated at the Church of England’s General Synod in York.
The call comes from John Dunnett, National Director of the Church of England Evangelical Council (CEEC) after the so-called “King Motion” was not carried.
“We thank God for this outcome and for all those who spoke and voted with biblical conviction,” Dunnett said. “At the same time, this result is no cause for complacency… The Living in Love and Faith cause continues, since the House of Bishops’ working group is tasked with exploring what changes would be needed to enable clergy to enter same-sex marriages.”
