New college with Christian aims and ethos launches

In response to the increasingly prevalent liberal and progressive ideologies appearing in universities, a “new and unique” Christian college has been launched.

Selden College will be based in Oxford and has a twofold vision: to recover the heritage of Christian higher education, and to glorify God in this arena.

While numerous Christian higher education colleges offer the option to study theology, mission, and pastoral subjects, there is reportedly no distinctively Christian higher education colleges offering an in-person wider academic curriculum – Selden College hopes to fill this gap.

The higher education establishment is for students aged 17 plus, and is named after John Selden (1584 –1654) a polymath lawyer, historian, parliamentarian, prolific writer, and defender of the Protestant faith.

Julie Burrows, Development Manager, told en: “I know how attractive it is for students to be able to study rigorous academic subjects with professors who teach their subjects through the lens of the Bible and a Christ-centred worldview.”

Dr Tim Edwards, Principal, told en: “Under God, we are creating a curriculum for a particular place – the British Isles – at a particular time, with roots deeply embedded in the long tradition of Christian education.”

Selden will have small, in-person classes with worship, music, hospitality, and mentorship as “characteristic features”.
