Bible sales in the UK are soaring, thanks to increasing interest in spiritual matters from Generation Z – those born between 1997 and 2012.
The Christian publisher SPCK says there “was an increase of 87 percent between 2019 and 2024 – from £2.69 million to £5.02 million,” The Times reports. The newspaper added: “Bible Society said that its 2018 volume Good News Bible – The Youth Edition, was ‘by far our most popular’, with sales almost doubling since 2021.”
On X, SPCK reflected that "this is an incredible shift, which speaks to a deeper search for meaning and faith."
While Head of Public Policy for Christian Concern, Tim Dieppe, commented, "Being spiritual isn't the same as being a Christian, but the fact that Bible sales are going up is surely encouraging. We need to pray that when these people read the Bible, they find the gospel and find the truth in it."
A recent survey found that those in Generation Z are far more likely to identify as “very or fairly spiritual” than the generations above them, which are usually identified as Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers in ascending age order.
