A survey of 1,562 Christians says believers in the UK feel under attack.
The report, published by campaigning organisation Voice for Justice UK, states: ‘Christians do not feel free to say what they think... A lack of freedom of expression is experienced generally, not just in the workplace.
‘The qualitative data showed widespread examples of hostility and ridicule occurring in the workplace as well as serious examples of bullying.’
In the report’s introduction, Nick Fletcher (pictured), who has been a Conservative MP and is standing again for election, says: ‘We all need to wake up to the attack on Christianity in our society, before it turns into something even more sinister. This report is a vital step in sounding the alarm.’
The survey says that many respondents felt that ‘ultimate responsibility’ for discrimination against Christians was felt ‘to lie with the church leadership, in particular the leadership of the Church of England. It was felt that the complete failure of the leadership to defend and protect the Christian faith... left the laity exposed to the widespread contempt for Christianity.’
