As many parts of the world came to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games, so the gospel in turn was brought to them.

A variety of missions groups including Birmingham City Mission, Great Lakes Outreach (GLO) and Youth With A Mission (YWAM) brought teams to the area to work alongside local churches.

The main focus of outreach was on personal one-to-one contact around the venues, with a cheery ‘hello, welcome to the games,’ the offer of a free gift including a copy of Luke’s Gospel, and an invitation to try First Look, a four part evangelistic course based on Luke.

Dave Williams of Church Central North said: ‘Highlights include conversations with two young Muslim ladies; one asked lots of sincere questions about everything from the Trinity through to what it means to be pure and modest … The other opened up about the challenges in her life … She was willing for us to pray for her and overwhelmed by this and by the fact that the gospel was a free gift.’
