‘Bible in the Dales’ ran for the first time over early May Bank Holiday at Netherside Hall.
Run by Yorkshire Camps, this new venture aimed to bring Bible teaching to the rural communities of the Dales, as well as the nearby towns and cities.
Psalms in the snow
Despite the snowy conditions and torrential rain, many people came from across the country to the marquee on the lawn, to hear Dr Steve Brady, principal of Moorlands Bible College, preach on various Psalms. A programme for primary-aged children ran concurrently inside the Hall. On Sunday afternoon many from local churches came to a hearty family ‘Songs to Praise’.
On Bank Holiday Monday there was a family day in which Roger Carswell and David Earnshaw of Inskip Baptist Church, shared the history of Christianity in Yorkshire citing numerous anecdotes of local Christians over many centuries, whilst weaving in the gospel. There were various activities, a large bookstall, cake and ice-cream to enjoy.
‘Bible in the Dales’ is an answer to the prayers of many who have longed for a Bible-centred convention in Yorkshire which is free and accessible to all ages. The aim is for this to be an annual event, with next year’s planned for 29 April to 1 May.
