Epic Biblical stories often become blockbuster movies. In 1956 it was The Ten Commandments starring Charlton Heston and in 2004 it was Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ.

18 March saw the UK release date of a film based on the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Starring Joseph Fiennes, Cliff Curtis and Tom Felton, Risen is a fictional story about a powerful Roman Military Tribune tasked with discovering what happened to Jesus after the crucifixion (see review in March en).

Changing history

The film’s tagline is: ‘Witness the manhunt that changed the course of human history.’ It gives Christians the opportunity to present the truth and impact of the resurrection story. To that end United Beach Missions and Roger Carswell have produced a gospel leaflet called Risen which uses this upcoming film as a launchpad to explain why Christ came, died and rose again.

Christians can buy plenty (from www.10ofthose.com) and give them away liberally. It might be that a group from your church can give them out to people as they go to your local cinema to watch the film.
