Scotland: throw away society

Dr Dave Landrum & Nola Leach at the Q&A

How do we engage and connect the gospel to our society?

On 22 November, Christians gathered from across Scotland to attend the annual ‘Solas – Centre for Public Christianity’ conference at St Peter’s Free Church in Dundee. The Solas conference this year was entitled ‘Throw away society – is Christianity past its sell-by date?’. It aimed to address issues surrounding the role of Christianity in shaping our family life, law, politics, culture, even our nation. It asked: Can our society survive without Christianity?

The featured speakers; Nola Leach, CEO of CARE, Solas Director, David Robertson, and author and theologian Sinclair Ferguson, addressed three societal ideals; liberty, equality and fraternity respectively. Many interesting points were raised, including: whether or not a neutral state is possible and viable or if it inevitably leads to state-enforced intolerance.
