A book to help us navigate children’s safety

GOD’S HEART FOR CHILD PROTECTION
AND SAFEGUARDING
:
Practical Theology from Global
Perspectives
Editors Nativity A. Petallar, Roseline
Olumbe, Martin Munyao
Langham Global. 352 pages. £22
ISBN 978 1 786 410 238

This book follows on from God’s Heart for Children which I personally found beautifully illuminating in its depth and thoughtfulness. I appreciated the unfolding of each chapter in that book which seemed to lay the foundation for the next. God’s Heart for Child Protection and Safeguarding has a different emphasis and style.

Both books describe themselves as practical theology from global perspectives, and they are written by practitioners living and working at the raw coal face of child advocacy. This second book feels a harder read, with each of the ten chapters focusing on a different form of child abuse or exploitation.
