NOT JUST WORDS
App Store

For those who have ever struggled to remember a specific Scripture verse, the Not Just Words app is a game changer. Instead of searching for exact phrasing (like most Bible apps), it intelligently searches for multiple variations of the words – so “pray” shows results for “prays”, “praying”, “prayer”, and it incorporates a built-in thesaurus: so “speak” also shows “talk”, “uttered”, and more.

It goes beyond keyword searching, you can search for specific references (“Rom. 1v4”), mix searches (“forgive in New Testament”), and search for conjunctions, AND, OR, NOT, NEAR. The availability of Bible versions is extensive: ESV, KJV, NIV, AMP, Darby, Japanese and Chinese language versions, to name a few. In 2024, they introduced a parallel pane feature enabling side-by-side viewing of multiple versions of search results.

The user interface (UI) is refreshingly minimal and functional. It may take a moment to get used to the depth of search features, but the clean layout ensures you’re never overwhelmed.

The best part of Not Just Words is that everything is stored locally, no internet required, so it is perfect for offline study or just quick devotional searches. Not Just Words allows users to remember and find elusive verses based on partial memory or thematic ideas.
