Our words are so significant and have great power. Carolyn Lacey puts us in her debt by having written such a hopeful, upward-and outward-looking book, which stresses the importance of saying the right thing without a hint of intimidation.
She acknowledges that most of us probably need help to be able to say the right thing, and in a Biblical, sure-footed way shows us how to go about developing our usefulness in this area.
She establishes conclusively the great need for people to hear the right thing being said to them and helpfully demonstrates how to do this. However, this is not a prescriptive, formulaic book, but rather one which gives us Scriptural guidelines for the kind of people we should be if we are going to be able to speak effectively into peoples’ lives. She encourages us to express a Biblical worldview, one consistent with believing in a great Creator who has made a good universe and acts for the good of those who trust Him. Chapters deal with differing situations where helpful speech can transform someone’s situation, either by conveying Christ’s compassion for someone experiencing difficulties or by reminding people of Biblical truth.
The book is so encouraging because it motivates the reader to become the kind of person she describes, and made me determined to at least try and be more purposeful in this way.
Though the book deals with outward verbal expression, the real value of this lovely book is its emphasis on becoming a person controlled by the Holy Spirit, saturated in the Scriptures, and living a humble, joyful Christian life pursuing Christlikeness.
There can be few who would not benefit from reading this book.
