Collections of Puritan sermons are seldom my first choice, but I am very glad to have read this one.
As the editor says: ‘Flavel’s work is easily accessible and speaks to all sorts of people today.’ He has selected an excellent set of sermons and has lightly edited them. The text reads smoothly to a modern reader. There is a short introduction to each chapter giving the context of the sermon and a brief summary of the content. This is an exemplary way to deal with such compilations.
