This book is a collection of six addresses to the Bala Ministers’ conference given by the late Emyr Roberts in the 60s and 70s.
As the title of the book suggests, its theme is revival in Wales, a land blessed with many times of revival since the 18th century. The author describes what revival is and what its impact was, the early societies of the Methodist movement and what those involved and then gives accounts of the lives of three men used in revival.
What God can do
The first three chapters are Revival, Methodism and the Evangelical Spirit, and the early Methodist Societies; the last three chapters are short biographies of William Williams, Robert Roberts and John Jones. This is a book that will naturally be of particular interest to those living and serving the Lord in Wales but its usefulness and interest is by no means restricted to Wales. If you want to be reminded of what God is able to do; be reminded of the churches need for a greater awareness of God’s presence and power; be searched about your own desire for God, then this would be a good book for you to read. It is a book that, whilst in no way playing down the need for sound doctrine and careful theology, reminds us that Christianity is to be experienced and lived, and that at its heart lies a relationship with God. This book has been well edited so that it is not dated, and gives an illuminating record of God’s work in the early Welsh Calvinistic Methodists, but it also encourages a desire to know God and his power in increasing measure.
