I WANT A CHRISTIAN PSYCHIATRIST
Finding a path back to mental and spiritual well-being
By Dr. David Enoch. Monarch Books. 192 pages. £7.99
ISBN 978-1-85424-684-4

This is a splendid book, which should be in the hands of every pastor — or anyone who wants to know how to help many a distressed Christian. Dr. Enoch’s previous book Healing the Hurt Mind, now in its 11th edition, will be known to many. In Liverpool he set up a church organisation for counselling, which he describes in this book.

Others will know Dr. Enoch as a preacher, for some 60 years or more. Among his peers he is admired for many achievements, not least his book on uncommon psychiatric conditions. His style is clear, direct and very personalised: in the 1960s he began working in a mental hospital with 2,500 patients and much overcrowding and inadequate care. By describing his own journey from that time, he takes us with him and shows us in a warm, Christian way what the modern treatments are, and for what conditions they are most effective.
