The new leader of the Welsh Conservatives is an unashamed Bible-believing Christian.
Darren Millar was elected unopposed as the new leader of the Tories in the Welsh Senedd.
‘He is also chief executive of a Christian charity, the Pocket Testament League, and works an average of seven hours a week for the organisation alongside his political role,’ the BBC reported.
However it added that, in the light of his new responsibilities, he would ‘reappraise those commitments’ following his appointment and said ‘the people of Wales should be on no uncertain terms that I am committed to them and my constituents.’
Millar was also quoted as saying ‘he had always been pro-life’ on abortion but also ‘believes in freedom of choice and personal responsibility’.
Millar’s website says he was first elected to the Welsh Parliament in 2007 and is now serving his fourth term.
‘Before being elected to the Senedd, Darren worked as a manager for an international charity supporting persecuted Christians around the world. He has also been an accountant working in the construction, care home and telecommunications industries,’ the website says. ‘Having been brought up in Towyn, Darren now lives in Kinmel Bay with his wife and their two grown-up children.’
Millar was a founder of the St David’s Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast and has also been a trustee of the Evan Roberts Institute.
