The article ‘Was Jesus a Zealot?’ in November’s EN was a helpful and interesting review of a not very helpful book.
But, at the end, the article discusses the short-lived ‘conversion’ of the book’s author who responded to the gospel at a Christian youth camp.
The conclusion that is drawn is that we must be careful in our evangelistic methods. My questions is, ‘Is it a good idea for an evangelical periodical to publish anything that might inadvertently discourage those who labour in preaching and teaching the gospel to young people?’
Is our problem in the evangelical church really that we sue the wrong evangelistic methods? Jesus explained very carefully and clearly that the seed sometimes falls on the path, sometimes falls among the rocks and sometimes falls among thorns and sometimes on good soil. He describes the results in each case. It was so for him and it will be so for us. It seems to me that Jesus preached wherever he could as did the apostles after him. As should we.
