A sprinter with a devout Christian faith is celebrating after winning a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary.
Marileidy Paulino (see photo), from Dominica, won the 400-metres race – becoming the first woman from her nation to do so.
On Instagram she has posted messages such as ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ and has ‘God is my hope, Amen’ written on one of her shoes.
She stated recently: ‘Thanks to God for everything, whether I lose or win, whether I come first or last, I am always grateful to God.’
At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Paulino also won another silver medal in the mixed 4 x 400-metre relay.
