A former missionary in Brazil, who is due to join a 20Schemes church planting project, is now recovering after being critically injured in a road accident.
Andrew Huffmier was hit by a car after stopping to assist a stranded driver on the highway and suffered multiple injuries. He was recently approved to join Mez McConnell as an associate church planter in Orkney.
An initial statement from 20Schemes revealed that despite there being no significant injuries to his organs, spine or brain, Andrew was in critical condition, on a ventilator and suffering from severe bruising on his lungs and heart. He underwent six operations in one week.
On 23 August, 20Schemes commented on Facebook: 'Earlier this week, Andrew made a significant step forward in his recovery as he could sit up and start talking. Yesterday, with assistance, he took his first walk since the accident. Praise the Lord for this progress! We're truly encouraged by your continued prayer and support for Andrew and his family.'
The same day, Mez shared on X, 'So grateful for the progress Andrew Huffmier is making! Praising God for the healing He’s provided already! Thanks for praying and supporting the family.'
Andrew Huffmier is married to Laura and has four young children.
20Schemes has a fundraising page for the family here.
