The ‘GLO’ Christian Bookshop in Motherwell is celebrating its 50th anniversary – bucking a trend which has seen numerous evangelical bookstores close.
Originally opening in a former fish and chips shop in Hamilton before moving to the new GLO (Gospel Literature Outreach) Centre in Motherwell in 1974, the staff estimate that the shop has since sold about 800,000 books, including 80,000 Bibles or other portions of Scripture.
They held a thanksgiving event to celebrate reaching the milestone to thank God for His faithfulness and reflect on the continued impact of the literature sold by the shop.
Manager Andrew Lacey revealed that in an era which has seen many Christian bookshops close, the main reasons for the shop’s survival and continued success are God’s goodness and His keeping power as retail has constantly changed over the last half-century, as well as the support of their staff, customers and local church communities.
