Gender ideology issues

Date posted: 1 Feb 2023

Dear Editor,

I really struggle with the consistent coverage around issues relating to gender ideology. I run an anti-bullying charity and transgender young people experience horrendous rates of bullying in our schools and communities.

Kingham Hill School

Dear Editor,

I wish to clarify a very misleading article in your November issue entitled ‘Kingham head search’, in which you make reference to the flying of rainbow flags in the school’s library and chapel.

Sexual and trans ethics

Dear Editor,

I was deeply moved by the anonymously written ‘I am same-sex attracted, committed to celibacy: please hear my voice’ (en February 2022).

Pronouns for transgender

Deborah Pitt (Dr
Date posted: 1 Nov 2018

Dear Sir,

Dr David Mackereth has been discriminated against and denied a job with the Department of Work and Pensions because of his Christian belief that God made mankind male and female. Dr Mackereth believed he should not be compelled to use a preferred specific pronoun to address a transgender patient. I fully agree. Religious belief is also a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, but evidently some protected characteristics are more protected than others.

Transgender questions

Dear en,

I appreciated the nuanced discussion in November’s en on gender issues and trans-gender rights, focusing as it did on both school and home life.

Disagree in love

Michael Edmondson
Date posted: 1 Apr 2019

Dear Sir,

The Anglican Update column in February’s en about General Synod and transgender liturgy was sadly marred by the somewhat long and convoluted sentence halfway through, beginning: ‘Henderson expressed…’. That was possibly due to a typo.

Leftie Christians reply

Labour Party member
Date posted: 1 Aug 2018

Dear Sir,

As one who might be labelled a ‘Leftie Christian’ by John Humphrey (en, July, the mail box), might I add a few comments to his letter. There are Christians in all main political parties. I joined the Labour Party a few years back, partly because a prominent evangelical within the Conservative Party (who suffered for standing by his principles) encouraged me to seek to recall Labour to its Christian Socialist roots, as he had taken a stand within the Conservatives. Events in recent weeks have brought home to me how much the leadership of all political parties and other organisations have been taken over by those with a profoundly anti-Christian agenda.

Gender debate

Tony Thomas
Date posted: 1 Nov 2017

Dear en,

Last week when driving, I was listening to a Radio 4 article that was discussing a Parliamentary Committee and the lack of female representation. Whilst listening to this discussion about the need for diversity, I was struck by the thought that the increasing profile of gender fluidity and other similar transgender issues seems to negate any concept of sexual diversity? Then today I read about a clash between feminists and transgender supporters. Who knows what other cultural clashes there are waiting in the wings in this increasingly complex and confrontational culture?

LGBT and sleeping church

Date posted: 1 Jan 2017

Dear en,

On reading the November en, Christian Concern’s brief report on USA sexual orientation research provided a very helpful background to reading, just a couple of pages on, ‘While the church sleeps’ by Dr Lisa Nolland, alerting the church to the extraordinary success of the LGBT’s penetration of schools etc. in the UK.

Pray for Scotland

John Brand

Date posted: 1 May 2016

Dear Friends,

Please could I use your letter section to rally Christians throughout the UK to be much in prayer for Scotland in these days. The nation that used to be known as the ‘land of the book’, i.e. the Bible, is now in peril of judgment.
