At 82-years-old, Roeli Elbers is still going strong spreading the gospel and serving weary travellers through her work with the Norway Seaman’s Mission.
“It’s the Lord!” said Elbers of her ability to coordinate the work of the ministry, which provides a home away from home for cruise workers and seafarers while their ships dock at Norwegian ports.
1,500 attend teen mission event in Germany

About 1,500 people attended the 51st Teen Mission Meeting in Monbachtal, in the northern Black Forest in Germany.
The event, organised by the Liebenzellar Mission, Christian guest houses in Monbachtal and Entschieden für Christus (Decided for Jesus), featured seminars and workshops alongside discussions with missionaries and praise.

Taiwan: Leaders unite
The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) was one of several religious groups represented by faith leaders at a pro-freedom event in Taipei. Representatives from several religious groups convened in the Taiwanese capital to consider the role of faith groups when it comes to “security and resilience”, according to China Aid News.
The event, co-hosted by the PCT, alongside China Aid and the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE), took place against a backdrop of a recent crackdown on Christianity, and featured contributions from representatives from Lithuania, Singapore and the IGE, amongst others, calling for freedom and democracy to be protected.
Franklin Graham groups quit accountability body

Franklin Graham – the son of late American evangelist Billy Graham – has withdrawn his two ministries from an evangelical accountability group which was co-founded by his father.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and Samaritan’s Purse have formally resigned from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), ending more than four decades of membership.
Gafcon plan: Theological allies remain silent

Conservative groupings in the Anglican Communion are remaining seemingly tight-lipped about Gafcon's recently-announced plans for a complete denominational reset.
On 16 October, the Global Anglican Future Conference (Gafcon), which represents many orthodox and Bible-believing individuals and churches, declared itself the "Global Anglican Communion" - as opposed to the existing Anglican Communion traditionally centred on Canterbury.

South Korea: Gospel work thrives

I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Seoul in South Korea, where I was asked to speak at the “East Meets West” Conference held at SaRang Church as part of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) Assembly [see additional WEA article here].
SaRang Church has a membership just short of 40,000 and has a heart for mission. They give huge amounts of resources to the re-evangelisation of Europe. “East Meets West” is led by Sam Ko, who has supported many revitalisation projects and church plants across our continent and has a lead role at the Union School of Theology in Wales.
US: Reactions to Nigeria being classed as CPC

There has been mixed reaction among missionary workers to the news that the US State Department has updated its classification of Nigeria to a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) due to its severe persecution of Christians.
The ongoing situation in Nigeria gained more publicity following comments by comedian Bill Maher, who described persecution as genocidal. Now, Trump’s administration has upped its designation of the country and has hinted at further action if violations of religious freedom are not halted.

Imagine being in rural Kenya last March, where the Upper Pokomo people gathered in eager anticipation. After years of waiting, a joyous procession arrived carrying boxes wrapped like precious gifts. Inside lay something more valuable than gold: the New Testament in the Upper Pokomo language.
As the packages were opened, singing and dancing broke out. Then, for the very first time, God’s word was read aloud in the Upper Pokomo language. The moment was unforgettable. Calling Mary "Co-redemptrix" risks diminishing the work of Christ, Roman Catholics are being told.
The warning is given in an official RC document described as a "doctrinal note on some Marian titles regarding Mary's co-operation in the work of salvation". It has been produced by the "Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith", a Vatican department established in 1542 to promote religious discipline in matters of faith and doctrine.

Because remote Karimui has no roads to connect people to the rest of Papua New Guinea, the only way villagers can obtain Bibles is to get them from the back of an MAF aircraft.
Pastor Kimin Mauwe, the community-appointed agent for Christian aviation charity MAF, began ministry in Karimui 33 years ago. For the past 32 years, he’s served MAF by providing weather reports and preparing passengers and cargo for travel.

In an episode of Come Fly with Me, the BBC’s 2010 satirical fly-on-the-wall documentary set in a fictional UK airport, Ian Foot, the Chief Immigration Officer, challenges a passenger from Liberia for travelling under a forged passport. “The slight giveaway,” says Foot smugly, “is there is no such country as Liberia.”
The affronted passenger, appalled by the officer’s racism, points to Liberia on a map of West Africa and the humiliated Foot lets the visitor through.

Christian Nationalism, OK?

One of the hot topics of the moment is regarding so-called “Christian Nationalism”.
The very phrase strikes terror in some – the word nationalism sounds to them perilously close to nationalist if not fascist. For others, looking at the growing demographic trend of Islamic populations in the West, or the rise of the “Nones” with no religious commitment at all, reconstituting a specifically Christian approach to national government is a needed realpolitik response to what will otherwise be increasing persecution of Christians in time to come. All this has become even more heated with the recent tragic and appalling assassination of the Christian leader and political advocate for contemporary Republicanism, Charlie Kirk. What are we to think of it all?
Italy: Thousands march for Jesus

Thousands of Christians have marched through Milan’s city centre carrying banners exclaiming that “Jesus is the light”, and “Jesus gives you freedom”.
The “March for Jesus” event, attended by about 5,000 people, proceeded through some of the city’s most famous streets and ended outside Milan Cathedral, where groups performed dances and songs. The event, dubbed by many as a “Joy March”, was organised by the Evangelistic Network in Mission (REM) in collaboration with churches and mission organisations, according to Evangelical Focus.

A “global week of prayer” is scheduled for the 1st to 7th of September, with the aim of offering nonstop prayer for every nation on Earth over the seven days.
An international, interdenominational prayer movement, 24-7 Prayer started in 1999 and has been using 24-7 Prayer Rooms to encounter God and drive mission and outreach for 25 years.

Influential US evangelical author and psychologist James Dobson died today, Thursday, it has just been announced.
News agency Associated Press described him as "a child psychologist who founded the conservative ministry Focus on the Family and was a politically influential campaigner against abortion and LGBTQ+ rights". He was 89.

Thousands in France gathered for the inaugural La Place conference, described by charity France Mission as the country’s biggest gathering of evangelicals.
The event, held at a conference centre in the Bois de Vincennes, to the south-east of Paris, provided an opportunity for French evangelical churches to connect and worship together. Around 3,000 people were reported to have attended.

We have a day of opportunity to advance the cause of the gospel in this predominantly Muslim country through the provision of God’s word in the Kyrgyz language. A Kyrgyz Bible for Kyrgyz people!
Bible ‘sets’ have been prepared and distributed – a specially designed Bible story book along with a full copy of the Scriptures. The Bible story book will appeal to children and also to Kyrgyz parents who love storytelling – it is an ingrained feature of Central Asian culture. By God’s grace, it will also provide an introduction to the reading and study of the Scriptures themselves. We know that the entrance of God’s word brings spiritual light and life.
