Aid cuts worry Christian charities

Christian charities that provide international aid are facing up to further cuts to the UK’s foreign aid budget planned for 2027.
After being reduced from 0.7% to 0.5% of Gross National Income (GNI) in 2021, spending will further decrease to 0.3% of GNI in 2027 to fund increased defence spending. As such, foreign aid spending will be the lowest it has been since 1999.
First City Mission marks 200 years

The world’s first official City Mission, Glasgow City Mission, is celebrating 200 years of service in Scotland’s largest city.
Established in 1826, Glasgow City Mission was founded by young Glaswegian David Naismith at just 26 years old. Moved by the poverty he witnessed in Glasgow, Naismith put the gospel into action by caring for people’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
From Russia to Wales: ‘The ministry is God’s, not mine’

You almost couldn’t get two more different places than the bustling metropolis of Moscow and what Ricky Wilhelm describes as the ‘sleepy seaside town’ of Penarth, Wales. Yet, married missionaries Ricky and Brandy have seen the gospel powerfully at work in both.
Ricky and Brandy grew up in Oklahoma and were married at age 19. Inspired by a visit to their campus from missionaries in Russia, the couple decided to enter the mission field and spent the next eight years of their life working with the Udmurt people in the Volga region of Russia. ‘Love for the people came quite slowly,’ Ricky explained. ‘It was hard … Americans are admired in many ways but not necessarily loved by other cultures.’
Mission offers ‘home away from home’

At 82-years-old, Roeli Elbers is still going strong spreading the gospel and serving weary travellers through her work with the Norway Seaman’s Mission.
“It’s the Lord!” said Elbers of her ability to coordinate the work of the ministry, which provides a home away from home for cruise workers and seafarers while their ships dock at Norwegian ports.
Caffeine and Kingdom?

Can coffee fuel evangelism? If it’s Tommy’s Coffee, then “yes!” say directors Luke Porter and Joel Barwick, who founded the kingdom-building coffee ministry last year.
The coffee cart, based in St Thomas’ Church, Newcastle, first started serving customers in May with a mission to simultaneously caffeinate and connect with the city’s residents.
10,000 mile journey to proclaim gospel in Glasgow

But Tim Scoular and his family have moved their lives more than 10,000 miles from Sydney to Scotland – all for the sake of sharing the gospel in Glasgow.

Nations unite in prayer

A “global week of prayer” is scheduled for the 1st to 7th of September, with the aim of offering nonstop prayer for every nation on Earth over the seven days.
An international, interdenominational prayer movement, 24-7 Prayer started in 1999 and has been using 24-7 Prayer Rooms to encounter God and drive mission and outreach for 25 years.
Silas Balraj takes top role at Tearfund

Silas Balraj joins Tearfund with decades of experience from his time at Compassion International, where he held several senior roles including Country Director for India, Vice President for Asia, and Senior Principal in the charity’s global programme function.
USA: New task force to remove ‘anti-Christian’ bias

President Trump is on a mission to get rid of “anti-Christian bias” in the US, creating a task force especially for the purpose.
Headed up by Attorney General Pam Bondi, the task force is to “immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government”, Trump announced in Washington recently during National Prayer Breakfast events.
A life remembered: Tony Campolo

The outspoken American preacher and ‘Red Letter Christian,’ Tony Campolo died last month aged 89.
The evangelical speaker and author was a forceful influence in the American church and was best known for calling Christians to follow Jesus’ teaching by loving and serving the poor and vulnerable in society.
'Trust God to work, no matter who is in office'
In what was expected to be a narrowly won election, former US President Donald Trump declared victory Wednesday morning after securing crucial ground in the states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, and North Carolina.
Speaking from Florida, the 47th US president addressed supporters promising to deliver the golden age of America over his next term in office. 'Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason and that reason was to save our country and restore America to greatness, and now we are going to fulfil that mission together,' the President said.
