THEOLOGY IN THE RAW

The Theology in the Raw (TITR) podcast says that it aims to help believers think Christianly about theological and cultural issues by engaging in curious conversations with a diverse range of thoughtful people.
Many will know the host of this podcast from his best-selling books and being one of the leading voices for evangelical Christianity when it comes to homosexuality and transgenderism. Preston Sprinkle hosts this podcast which does not hold back when choosing its topics. It seems there are no taboo subjects!
The episodes range from talking about Palestine and Israel to transgender healthcare to faithful political engagement.
The episode I listened to was about pornography. In an ever more over-sexualised world, frank conversations like this are really important. The guest on the podcast was Noah Filipiak, who is pastor of Mosaic Church, USA.
Speaking openly
Filipiak speaks openly about his addiction and struggles with pornography. The statistics are staggering. In the UK (in a survey of over 500 Christians), 75% of the men view pornography every month. 42% of those men would say they had a ‘porn addiction’. It is clear that we are not teaching and discipling our men (and women!) enough regarding pornography.
Filipiak shares some shocking statistics from the US from not just Christian surveys but also general public surveys.
I like the candour and tone of the podcast. It does not mince words but boldly discusses topics that we may normally shy from speaking about or even listening about. We need more candid conversations in our churches about that which we struggle with, and how we as brothers and sisters can lean on each other (bearing one another’s burdens – Gal. 6:2) and support each other through the difficult periods of life.
