Real Talk Christian Podcast (RTC) was born out of two friends who would spend many hours at a local Starbucks talking about faith, culture, and living the practical, everyday Christian life when faith and culture collide.
The show is hosted by Chris Fuller and Marc Hyde. Fuller works for a secular company and Hyde is a freelance marketer.
The episode I listened to was ‘Does God care about what you wear for church?’. It focuses on the phrase ‘Sunday best’.
It took 17 minutes to get to the subject of the podcast. I assume this is a weekly occurrence as the hosts are clearly good friends and want to catch up and update their regular audience.
The hosts took us through the etymology of the phrase ‘Sunday best’ and some of their experiences with the phrase.
I currently live in South Africa and ‘Sunday best’ is certainly the done thing here. Especially in the black culture. In this setting, the colours and clothing can be beautiful. However, as stated in the podcast, every town, city and culture will have a different view on clothing; and what is seen as appropriate in one place might not be in another.
The podcast sets a clear path to look at both sides of the argument; ‘Sunday best’ and ‘come as you are’. This episode looks into the subject of modesty, extravagance, and even coffee-mug theology!
This podcast certainly has a more American leaning and audience, and naturally so, due to the hosts and location. It also delves into the more nuanced questions that other podcasts may not cover so readily.
