Everyone in the UK who has recently gone blind or started to lose their sight can claim a free audio Bible player from Torch Trust.
Around 90,000 people a year are told the difficult news that they are losing their sight. However, fewer than two in five say they are offered any form of emotional support, according to research from the Royal National Institute for the Blind.
‘I could listen all day long’
‘Nigel’, who helped the Christian sight loss charity test the Pathway Bible players, said: ‘I’m not religious, I don’t go to church, but I could listen to this all day long’.
Torch Trust is providing an audio Bible (New Testament and the Psalms) read by David Suchet, on a simple-to-use MP3 player. It comes with full user instructions in audio form or large print as required.
Torch’s CEO Tim Jeffery said: ‘From our years of experience working with those with sight loss, we understand the challenges as sight deteriorates, and the many adjustments needed to live with a visual impairment.
‘The Bible can be an amazing source of comfort and encouragement at such times. Whether people have read it regularly or haven’t done for years, we want to make it possible for them to hear the word of God.’
Anyone living with sight loss can contact the trust to request a free Bible player. The trust is also inviting sponsors to help others receive one.
