  • Birkett’s new role

    Church Society

Theological consultant, the Revd Dr Kirsten Birkett, has been recruited by Church Society on a part-time basis.

Dr Birkett is a speaker and writer, and an associate minister in the Church of England who has worked previously with Church Society. She has written a number of books including The Essence of the Reformation, Unnatural Enemies: An Introduction to Science and Religion, and Resilience: A Spiritual Project.

  • Abortion defeat

A proposed amendment , NC50, to the Health and Care Bill, which would effectively have decriminalised abortion up to 24 weeks in England and Wales, has failed in parliament.

Had the proposed amendment passed, pregnant women would have been allowed to abort their own child in any way for any reason. SPUC Executive Director Michael Robinson said: ‘Many MPs have received the message loud and clear that we will not tolerate such extreme and barbaric practices.’
