  • Scotland: views sought

The Right to Life Charitable Trust

In mid-March, the Scottish Parliament’s Health and Sport Committee made a call for views on the legalisation of assisted suicide, in advance of its scrutiny of [the late] Margo MacDonald MSP’s Assisted Dying Bill in the autumn.

The committee’s deputy convenor, Bob Doris MSP, has said that the committee wants to hear from a wide range of people – including individuals who may be affected by the proposed legislation. The deadline for the receipt of evidence is June 4.

  • No church marriages?

    The Daily Telegraph

Simon Hughes, the Liberal Democrat justice minister, said in early March that the traditional Christian wedding ceremony should no longer have legal status.

Couples who want to marry in church would have to undertake two separate ceremonies (the civil one taking place as part of the church wedding) in order for their marriage to be recognised by the state.
