Josiah's reformationHumble kingJOSIAH’S REFORMATION We live in an age that requires CVs in which we must promote ourselves, that considers low self-esteem a disease, an age of spin. We live in an age where there is little thought of God, our law giver and judge, to whom we must give account. In this book, Richard Sibbes draws back the curtains on a totally different world. Woven into its very fabric is an awesome holy God before whom we should all tremble, and the virtuous are meek, humble, and mournful. In the day of good King Josiah, the Scriptures, the word of God, were rediscovered and read publicly. On hearing them, Josiah realised the sin of his people and the intended judgment of God upon them. Josiah reacted with a humble cry to God for mercy and received a blessing from God. It is this reaction to which Sibbes draws our attention. He insists that, if we are to know peace and blessing from God, we must be like Josiah, with tender hearts, looking to God’s mercy. I would recommend this book to you as an antidote to the self-exalting, man-centred culture in which we live today. It is a breath of fresh biblical air.
